A thick fog couldn’t keep the Bears from finding the goal as San Marcos Academy won its sixth consecutive match Monday, shutting out San Antonio St. Gerard inside McCoy-Remme Athletic Complex, 9-0.
Junior Evan Schawe earned his third hat trick of the season, finding the back of the net three times against the Royals. Fellow junior Brandon Rothenbuhler added another two goals, a career high. The Bears also received goals from juniors Muassiri Almeida and Sean Feigl, sophomore Inaki Infante and freshman Malachi Deoliveira.
Infante and junior Manuel Kagoya led the team with two assists each, followed by Almeida, Feigl, senior David Shui and sophomore Mitchell Thornton with one apiece.
SMA’s defense afforded just two shots on goal to St. Gerard in the shutout, with one shot being saved by senior goalkeeper Micah Burton and the other by freshman goalie Jacob O’Leary.
The Bears improve to 7-1 on the season. They’ll head to New Braunfels Christian Academy on Friday to take on the Wildcats at 6 p.m.
