It’s hard to say who had the best night for the Bobcats.
Texas State rolled past Texas A&M International on Monday, 89-25. It was the maroon and gold’s final non-conference game, a tuneup on the final day of 2018.
Head coach Zenarae Antoine doled out plenty of playing time, as 11 players saw the floor for double-digit minutes and the Bobcat bench outscored the Dust Devils, 39-9.
Like Antoine, Toshua Leavitt was in a giving mood, too. The senior guard was flawless as a facilitator, dishing out a career-high 10 assists without turning the ball over once. Leavitt also picked up four steals and four 3-pointers to finish the night with 18 points.
Sophomore forward Jayla Johnson made the most of her first start of the season. Johnson racked up 14 points to go along with 15 rebounds — the most by a single player in any game this year — to register her first career double-double.
Da’Nasia Hood achieved 10 career highs in the contest. The freshman forward led the Bobcats in scoring with 22 points to go along with seven boards in 22 minutes off the bench.
As a team, Texas State turned in its best defensive performance of the season. The hosts forced a season-high 25 turnovers and held the visitor to single-digit points in the first three quarters of the game, giving up a season-low 25 points.
The Bobcats (5-7) will tip-off Sun Belt play on the road, taking on Georgia Southern (5-6) on Thursday in Statesboro, Ga.
