Joca Marquez seems to have concerns about what “All the big developers” look like. My concern is that the big “emotionless” guys are not from our town and won’t suffer the consequences of what they do. My concern is how much money they already have and how they can use it to get their way in spite of the concerns of residents and their elected officials.
Big developer means people who don’t even live here but still have big influence. It doesn’t have to be because they contribute to election campaigns or otherwise directly buy influence. They also can use their staff attorneys to impact outcomes. I have even personally witnessed a big developer who did business with all the key attorneys in town and thereby make it impossible to fight them in court without having in house attorneys or getting an out of town law firm.
The citizens of San Marcos elect government officials to govern this town in the best way possible. The concern to target is whether any “Big developers” (in general) can badly influence the otherwise best intentions of that government. Do I have to even make the statement that the problems with big developers have nothing to do what those big developers look like?
The concern is whether city council has the ability to resist big developers to make the right and just decisions in favor of the citizens/future of San Marcos. So in my opinion Joca Marquez correctly detects a potential problem but seems to be hovering over the wrong target.
