Former Texas State Volleyball associate head coach Tracy Smith was hired by United Volleyball Association (VBA), a club team based out of New Braunfels, the University announced on Tuesday.
Smith joined the Bobcats in 2002 and was a part of former head coach Karen Chisum’s staff for 18 seasons. Smith’s departure follows Chisum’s retirement and the promotion of Sean Huiet to head coach in December.
Smith has been a director and coach for United VBA during her time with the maroon and gold. The team’s website notes Smith wants to “devote herself full-time to be the United VBA Director and her family.”
“I knew retirement was drawing near and that I would not pursue other college locations to coach,” Smith said in a statement. “United VBA has showed tremendous interest and support, making me feel wanted and at home. I am excited to continue my love of coaching and mentoring athletes and coaches in this amazing game.
“I love being in the gym training the girls regardless of age. I can literally do it all day long. I am so blessed United wanted me in their family and that I can keep doing what I love to do in the area I love. Thank you, Bobcat Nation, for 18 years. I will miss all my Bobcats dearly! I will not be far and am a Sean Huiet ambassador for life! But once again, thank you United VBA for this opportunity.”
