Texas State received 23 votes in the USA Today/NFCA Preseason Coaches Poll on Tuesday.
The coaches poll is voted on by 32 NCAA Division I head coaches, including one from each conference.
Texas State is joined in the poll by Sun Belt rival Louisiana, who is ranked No. 15. The Bobcats meet the Ragin’ Cajuns on March. 9 in a three-game series at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
Texas State is one of five Texas schools in the poll — Texas (No. 16), Baylor (No. 18), Texas A&M (No. 20) and Houston (Receiving votes).
Florida State is ranked No. 1 as the defending national champions. UCLA comes in at No. 2 and Washington at No. 3.
The SEC has a conference-high 11 teams ranked in the top 25, including six teams in the top 10. Florida is the highest-rated SEC team at No. 5.
Texas State begins the 2019 campaign against UTSA at the Bobcat Classic on Thursday, Feb. 6 inside Bobcat Softball Stadium at 6 p.m.
