The Bobcats can’t keep their hands off the ball.
Per Her Hoop Stats, Texas State is forcing a turnover on 25.8 percent of its opponents’ possessions, ranking 12th nationally. The team put on a clinic in its 61-51 win over Dartmouth (5-4) on Sunday in Hanover, New Hampshire, as the Big Green committed 20 turnovers.
The maroon and gold nearly fell behind in the first quarter, but a buzzer-beating jumpshot from sophomore guard Kennedy Taylor tied the score at 13-13. The Bobcats clamped down in the next period, holding Dartmouth to nine points. Junior forward Jayla Johnson dropped seven points early in the quarter to push Texas State ahead, 22-14. The visitors held on to the eight-point advantage as they entered the second half, up 30-22.
The Big Green raced back in the third quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 23-14 to take back the lead. Sophomore forward Da’Nasia Hood answered with a pair of free throws to begin the final quarter and the team never relinquished the lead again. The hosts finished the fourth quarter with as many points as they had turnovers with six each as Texas State took the 61-51 victory.
Hood led the team with 15 points, followed by senior guard Brooke Holle with 11 and Taylor with 10. Dartmouth shot just 15-of-46 from the floor, the shots made by the team in any game this season.
Texas State (6-2) will meet with Morgan State (3-7) on Wednesday in Baltimore, battling the Bears at 11 a.m.
