Senior guard Nijal Pearson earned his first Sun Belt Player of the Week award, the conference announced on Monday.
Pearson lit up Bethany College on Sunday for 30 points, six rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block in Texas State’s 117-65 home win. The Beaumont native is averaging career highs in points and field goal percentage, scoring 18.8 points per game on .456 percent shooting. Pearson is also averaging 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
It’s Pearson’s fourth time to claim the weekly honor, being named Player of the Week twice in 2018 and once in 2017. Pearson is the first player to pick up the laurel for the Bobcats this year.
Texas State (7-4) will begin league play this weekend, traveling to play Georgia Southern (6-4) in Statesboro, Georgia on Thursday at 6 p.m and reigning Sun Belt champion Georgia State (6-3) in Atlanta on Saturday at 1 p.m.
