'Sandlot' cast reunites

'Sandlot' cast reunites

Ninety’s kids had an opportunity to re-experience a movie that never ventured far from the VCR last Sunday when Alamo Drafthouse’s Rolling Roadshow hosted a cast reunion and outdoor screening of 1993’s cult kid classic “The Sandlot.”

The Movie Party event held at Treaty Oak Distilling in Dripping Springs had pre-show shenanigans with cast members Tom Guiry who played “Smalls,” Chauncey Leopardi who played “Squints” and Patrick Renna who played “Ham.”

Patrick Renna does the signature "Ham" move before hitting the ball.

“The Sandlot” is an iconic coming-of-age film that centers around the summer of 1962 and brainy fifth grader Scotty Smalls who is desperately trying to make new friends after his family relocates to a San Fernando Valley neighborhood. Smalls hooks up with a group of kids who’re looking for a ninth player in their sandlot baseball team. The only problem? He’s terrible at baseball. The gang’s adventures bring them into contact with an intimidating presence known as "The Beast,” an iconic piece of baseball memorabilia, and the intimidating presence of James Earl Jones. Heartwarming, hilarious and completely quotable, “The Sandlot” is a love letter to the American pastime and to the friendships you make as a child that last your whole life.

Rolling Roadshow hosted a pre-screening Q&A with the cast.

Event hosts Treaty Oak Distilling offered a “Sandlot”-themed food and beverage menu that included homemade cracker jacks, stadium nachos, hotdogs, hamburgers, s’mores pudding, Big League Chew, peanuts, sno cones and peach cream soda.
