Texas State had to find a replacement for Madison Daigle.
The former middle blocker was a four-year starter for the Bobcats and helped push the team to its first Sun Belt title while collecting the Most Outstanding Player award for the league tournament.
Daigle graduated in the spring, leaving a hole in the middle of Texas State’s front line. Head coach Karen Chisum’s tried multiple combinations at the position. Last week, Tyeranee Scott proved to be the most effective.
The junior swatted away 13 shots in three games during the Creeds & Crests Classic inside Strahan Arena. It was the highest total of any three-game stretch of her career. Scott also posted one of her best performances to date in the final match of the event — a 3-0 sweep over Sam Houston State on Saturday — scoring a personal-best 15 kills and matching a career-record seven blocks.
The effort earned Scott the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week honor, announced on Monday. It’s the first laurel for her since she was named the league’s Freshman of the Week twice in 2017. It’s also the first conference award any Bobcat has collected this season.
Scott and Texas State (8-5) took on No. 2 Baylor (9-0) in Waco at 6 p.m. The match ended after press time. The team begins Sun Belt play on Friday, hosting Louisiana (4-9) inside Strahan Arena at 6:30 p.m.
