Registration open for new life long learning classes

San Marcos Parks and Recreation, in association with the Life Long Learning Organization of San Marcos, is offering new Life Long Learning courses for the greater San Marcos area beginning

San Marcos Parks and Recreation, in association with the Life Long Learning Organization of San Marcos, is offering new Life Long Learning courses for the greater San Marcos area beginning this month.

The classes are primarily for those age 50 and above, but adults of any age are welcome to register.

For complete course descriptions, instructor information, material lists or to register for a class, stop by the Activity Center at 501 East Hopkins, the Parks and Recreation Main office at 401 East Hopkins, call 512-393-8400 or visit the city's website and search LLL for Life Long Learning courses. A minimum number of registrants is required for these classes.

Personal Law

  • Fridays, March 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the San Marcos Activity Center. Cost is $20 and class is presented by Dr. Patricia Pattison, a Distinguished Professor Emerita of Finance and Economics at Texas State.

Ukulele for Beginners

  • Tuesdays: Feb. 5, 12, 19, 26 and March 5 & 12 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the San Marcos Activity Center. Cost is $50 and class is presented by Bob Guz, president and music director of the Austin Ukulele Society.

Understanding Chemistry: Bridge from Non-Life to Life

  • Thursdays, March 7, 14, 21, 28 and April 4 & 11 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the San Marcos Activity Center. Cost is $25 and class is presented by Marianne Reese. Marianne has degrees in chemistry (BS, Suffolk University) and environmental science (MS, Rutgers), and doctorate in Educational Leadership (UT, Austin).

Pastel Portrait Drawing – Art Class

  • Fridays, Jan. 4, 11, 18, 25 and Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Cephas House. Cost is $50 and class is presented by Roxana Tuff, a metalsmith and illustrator who holds a BFA in Painting and Drawing and a MFA in Painting.

Colored Pencil Drawing – Art Class

  • Fridays, Jan. 4, 11, 18, 25 and Feb. 1 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. the Cephas House. Cost is $50 and class is also presented by Roxana Tuff.

Combining Media – Art Class

  • Wednesdays, Feb. 20, 27, March 6, 13 and 20 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Cephas House. Cost is $50 and class is presented by Roxana Tuff.

Beginning/Novice Bridge

  • Mondays, Jan. 28, Feb. 4, 11, 25, March 4 and 11 from 10 a.m. to noon at the San Marcos Activity Center. Cost is $35 and class is presented by certified ACBL instructor Cathy Supple.

Advanced Bridge

  • Fridays, Feb.15, 22, March 1, 8, 15 and 22 at the San Marcos Activity Center. The cost is $50 and class is presented by certified ACBL instructors Barbara Morgan and Cathy Supple.
