Rattlers set sights on East Central

San Marcos enters District 26-6A competition on Friday against San Antonio East Central.

After three non-district games, head coach Mark Soto believes his team learned from each contest to help prepare the Rattlers for a district he describes as the “toughest in Texas.”

“I think we’ve learned a lot of great things,” Soto said after San Marcos’ game against Laredo United on Sept. 13. “We’ve learned a lot of lessons. At the end of the day, we’re playing three quarters a game. I think when we play that fourth quarter, we’re going to get that win.”

San Marcos (0-3) enters Friday’s district opener against East Central (2-1) coming off a 28-23 loss to Laredo United. The Hornets were defeated in a 35-28 loss to 5A opponent Alamo Heights last week.

Following last Friday’s game, Soto said San Marcos planned to work harder during practice to pick up its first win of the season.

“You just go to work,” Soto said. “There’s no secret sauce to any of this. All you do is go back to work and work harder than you did the week before.”

The Rattlers take on the Hornets inside San Marcos Toyota Rattler Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
