As the new year begins to unfold, your true community radio station has been busy, working to improve and expand our programming. Earlier this month we began conducting classes at the public library to train prospective DJs and radio hosts. As we draw near to the end of this training cycle, we predict that there will be approximately 15candidates completing this training. Not all individuals who have taken the course are interested in hosting a radio show, some have volunteered to provide support in the operations at the station. For those who will go on to host a radio program, the show ideas have been very diverse. We are excited to have more of your friends and neighbors participating and sharing their passion with our listeners. It is expected that these new programs will begin to be on the air sometime in February!

This past week, we were visited by children from the San Marcos Homeschoolers group. The kids ranged in age from 4 to 13. Judging by the types of questions and interest they showed, it wouldn’t be surprising to have a couple of new, young radio hosts in our future.

There have been a few changes in our programming that are worth noting We welcome Carole back to our early Sunday morning line-up with “Sunrise Soul Food,” a mix of inspirational Christian music and reflections as she shares her passion for sunrise meditations. Jeremiah and “Shattered Glass Radio” have moved to Sunday afternoon.

One may still tune in to his old time slot for encore presentations of his show on Friday afternoons to hear the latest news from the world of wrestling. Limey’s Lass will be extending her program to two hours on Saturday afternoons with a Robbie Burns special at the end of the month on Celtic Corner.

Keep an ear open for a new program, not related to the new group of radio hosts, coming soon on dating and other adult topics which will premiere at 10 p.m. on Saturday nights.

Metal Mark “The God-son of Heavy Metal” has moved to Thursday nights for his live program but can still be heard during his old time slots as we will continue to play encore presentations during that time. Come to Jack’s Roadhouse on the 8th and 9th for another heavy metal event and meet Mark “in the flesh” and join us in the mosh pit!

KZSM (just a little bit south of weird!) now streaming world-wide on the internet at KZSM.org.
