Studying MLK

Fourth grader Serenity Alvarez uses a tablet to look up how to spell the state of Georgia on Friday for her worksheet about Martin Luther King Jr. as part of Angela Murr’s class activity on the significance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Irene K. Mendez Elementary. Daily Record photos by Denise Cathey

A selection of books about Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement are displayed on the classroom’s whiteboard for students to peruse.

With bonus points awarded for each team’s member who finds a good quote from MLK, teacher Angela Murr looks over Ebbie Ramirez’s found quote before reading it aloud to the class.
