San Marcos 8U Pinto All-Stars advance to PONY South Zone World Series

San Marcos 8U Pinto All-Stars advance to PONY South Zone World Series

The San Marcos 8U Pinto All-Stars are heading to the Protect Our Nation’s Youth (PONY) South Zone World Series.

The All-Stars advanced to the tournament after winning both the South Region sectional tournament, defeating Lexington 13-3 in the championship game at Ramon Lucio Park on June 18, and regional tournament, beating Hutto 5-2 in the championship game in Buda on July 1.

“I think the boys are doing a good job of communicating, letting each other know when the ball comes to them, where they’re going to go with it,” head coach Matt Gamboa said. “And we’ve had some really big hitters … we’ve scored a lot of runs these past 12, 13 games in three weekends. I think that’s what we’ve done well, particularly.”

The All-Stars will head to Youngsville, Louisiana on July 23 for the World Series, along with the first- and second-place teams from every other regional tournament in the South Zone, ranging from Texas to Florida.

The team has set up a GoFundMe fundraiser to help with travel expenses. If you wish to contribute, you can do so at www.gofundme.com/f/pony-world-series8u-pinto-allstars. If you wish to donate to the San Marcos Youth Baseball Softball Association, you can do so at [email protected].
