LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Recently I was referred to as a well-known person by a city council member during the April 15th meeting. I apparently rated a “favor” by not naming me, but have no need in receiving any sort of favor, nor have I asked for any. She said this twice, once during agenda item discussion and again during the question-and-answer period. This favor completely misquoted me and compared my words to something that in no form or fashion did I say.
Discussion was being held on agenda item 16 on the April 15, 2025 agenda.
Hold a discussion regarding a possible resolution calling for the immediate and permanent ceasefire in occupied Palestine, an arms embargo on Israel, recognition of Palestinian sovereignty, and the protection of constitutional rights for all people under national and international law.
I sent an email to the city council email account. As I understand it, the email gets forwarded to each council member individually, there can be no response thus no form of Open Meetings violation has occurred.
During the council meeting council person Amanda Rodriguez says “I am going to actually use a quote by the Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, similar to an email from a well-known person in this community, but I am going to do her a favor and not call her name out, but referring to Palestinians as terrorist, rapist, killers. He also said we are fighting against human animals. Gaza won’t return to what it was before. We will eliminate everything.” This can be heard to about 6 hours and 20 minutes into the meeting video.
Thank you for the well known but if I am going to be called out, even anonymously, I would like to have it correct. In my email to council, which was highly satirical, I said, “Thank you in the name of the Holy Baby Jesus for finally telling those violent, warmongering, rapist and killers just what you think. I am of course not naming a side because there is enough blame to go around the West Bank 100 times over.
I am sure both the Israelis and the Palestinians and whoever else is playing war games in Gaza will be so relieved to finally hear from San Marcos, Texas.”
I clearly did not call out one side or the other. There is way too much fault on both sides. Both have done horrific things; both have followers that are happy with what they have done and both have distractors that cannot condone or participate any longer.
My email was to point out that we have little or no impact on the other side of the world. There will be many, many people that will read this and go who in the hell is this person? That will completely do away with the well-known part of all this. If I am going to be quoted, I would prefer to be quoted correctly and with the correct context.
Now as to favors, if you really want to give me one, how about one of the super specials your utilities won’t get cut off pass? Or HEB gift cards. Or I have an idea, send someone over to help me catch up on laundry. That would be great.
Or maybe help the peace in our own back yard and pass a resolution for world peace. For all wars to cease, for everyone to just get along. For San Marcos to realize that we are all in this together and that a peace everywhere be wonderful.
