The Bobcats won their second game in a row, beating the Houston Christian Huskies 9-3 to get back to .500 for the season.
The win improves the Bobcats overall record to 18-18 as Texas State and Head Coach Steven Trout go back on the road into conference play.
“I feel we’re gaining momentum with our offense,” Trout said. “We still left a lot of baserunners out there today, but we found a way to score nine tonight. We are do- ing a better job of getting to the middle of the field, getting on top of the baseball and swinging at better pitches.”
The Bobcats found themselves trailing after two innings when the Huskies scored two runs in the first and third innings to go up 2-0.
But in the bottom of the third, the Bobcats took their first lead of the game.
Juior first baseman Coy DeFury scored the first run of the game on a leadoff home run, cutting the deficit down to 2-1. After the Bobcats put runners on first and second with no outs, sophomore shortstop Ryne Farber connected with a two-run RBI double to give the Bobcats a 3-2 lead over Houston Christian.
The Bobcats later did more offensive damage in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded and no outs, sophomore Samson Pugh connected with a two-run RBI double in center field. However, the Huskies made two throwing errors to both home plate and later third base allowing senior Austin Munguia and Pugh to score from an inside the park grand slam and extending the lead to 7-2.
DeFury later scored another run for the Bobcats in the bottom of the fifth inning, hitting a sacrifice fly in left field, extending the lead to 8-2.
Houston Christian answered back by scoring a run in the top of the eighth inning but not before Ryne Farber connected with an RBI single to make the final score 9-3.
Freshman pitcher Josh Glaser earned his first win of the season, throwing 2.2 innings, allowing no hits, no earned runs, one walk and striking out four batters.
Texas State will be back on the road Thursday against the South Alabama Jaguars. The Jaguars are coming off a mid-week loss to Alabama State and a conference series loss to Arkansas State.
First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
