In an offensive fireworks shootout, the Rattlers were unable to overcome the Cibolo Steele offense, falling to the Knights 2210 in the final home game of the season for San Marcos.
The Rattlers fall to 1014-1 overall while their district record falls to 1-10.
Steele scored in the top of the first inning to lead 1-0 over San Marcos before the Rattlers struck back in the next at-bat.
After reaching base on a Steele fielding error, A’Kyia Spillers advanced to third on a Kendra Robledo single before scoring on a passed ball to tie the game at 1-1.
Facing runners on the corners with no outs following a walk, Arianna Flores connected with a two-run RBI double to give the Rattlers the lead at 3-1.
Flores later scored on a passed ball as San Marcos entered the second inning up 4-1.
Cibolo Steele scored two more runs in the top of the second inning before the Rattlers answered back.
Flores hit another run for the Rattlers, grounding out to shortstop as Spillers scored from third base, making it a 5-3 lead for San Marcos.
After shutting out Steele in the top of the third inning, San Marcos added on to their lead. Following a leadoff double from Addison Castillo before advancing to third base, Keziah Rios hit an infield RBI single to score Castillo, extending the lead to 6-3.
Unfortunately for the Rattlers, it marked the last time the Rattlers held the lead.
Steele scored 14 unanswered runs in the next three innings as San Marcos entered the bottom of the sixth inning trailing 17-6.
However the Rattlers didn’t give in. Spillers hit a leadoff single before she advanced all the way to third base and scored on a passed ball. Flores, who reached base on a walk before advancing to second on the same passed ball, scored on a Marley Longoria RBI single as San Marcos entered the seventh inning down 17-8.
Cibolo Steele scored five more runs in the top of the seventh inning to lead 22-8 as the Rattlers looked to make one last comeback attempt despite the large deficit.
Robledo connected with an RBI single with two outs before Emalyn Martinez hit an RBI single of her own, cutting the deficit down.
Unfortunately for San Marcos, it was all the Rattlers could muster, falling to Cibolo Steele 22-10.
The Rattlers will close out the regular season on the road next Tuesday against New Braunfels Canyon.
