The Rattlers comeback fell just short on Friday as San Marcos dropped their district game against the Judson Rockets 5-4.
The loss drops the Rattlers overall record to 1015-1 and their district record to 1-9.
San Marcos scored first in the top of the first inning when Arianna Flores hit an RBI single to put the Rattlers up 1-0.
Judson tied the game at 1-1 after San Marcos committed a fielding error in the bottom of the third. In the fourth inning, the Rockets took their first lead of the game on an RBI single, going up 2-1. Later in the same inning, the Rockets connected with a two-run RBI double, extending the lead to 4-1.
The Rattlers answered back in the top of the fifth, taking advantage of a Rockets fielding error and scoring one run to make it a 4-2 game.
Judson added insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring on a sacrifice fly and extending the lead 5-2.
However San Marcos was not about to give in. The Rattlers rallied in their final at-bat, starting with a leadoff single from Emalyn Martinez.
After Flores laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Martinez to second, Marley Longoria hit a two-run home run over the wall in left field, cutting the Rattler deficit to 5-4.
Unfortunately for the Rattlers, the comeback was not meant to be as the Rockets got the final two outs on a strikeout and a flyout.
San Marcos will play their final home game of the season Tuesday night against the Cibolo Steele Knights. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
