Veronica Medina and Kirsten Brotze will share information about the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center at the Rotary Club of San Marcos on April 9. The month of April is both Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month. Medina and Brotze plan to discuss sexual assault and child abuse, including defining both issues, identifying myths and misconceptions, and finally, what can be done to support survivors and prevent abuse from happening in the future. Medina and Brotze will also provide information about the services of HCWC and how community members can be involved.
Veronica Medina is the Community Development Coordinator at HCWC. She joined the nonprofit in 2015 as the Shelter Legal Advocate. As the Community Development Coordinator, her role includes fundraising, community engagement, education and donor development. Veronica earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology, minoring in Criminal Justice, from Sam Houston State University.
Kirsten Brotze has been the Community Engagement Coordinator at HCWC since 2023. She began her involvement at the nonprofit as a volunteer in 2021, then was hired on as an Overnight/ Weekend Shelter Advocate. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Rotary meets Wednesdays at Noon at the VFW Hall, located at 1701 Hunter Road. Visitors are always welcome. Rotary is nonprofit, nonpolitical and nonreligious. The San Marcos Rotary Club is 104 years old. SMTXrotary. com
