Sophomore pitcher Jack Vasquez and the Rattler defense put together another dominating performance, allowing just one hit in San Marcos’ 1-0 win over the Cibolo Steele Knights on the road in district play.

The win improves San Marcos’ record to 15-5-1 overall and their district record to 6-2.

Vasquez took the start on the mound, throwing a complete game while allowing just one hit, zero earned runs, four walks and striking out 14 batters.

The Rattlers scored their only run of the game in the top of the second inning. Right fielder Landon Munoz started the inning with a lead-off triple into center field and put the Rattlers in scoring position from 90-feet away.

Third baseman Mason Gamboa then connected with an RBI single into left field, scoring Munoz and giving the Rattlers the 1-0 lead.

Cibolo Steele threatened to score in the bottom of the second inning with runners on second and third with one. However, Vasquez delivered consecutive strikeouts to strand the base runners and get out of the jam.

The inning marked the last time Steele had runners in scoring position.

The Rattlers lone score was all they needed as San Marcos closed out the bottom of the seventh inning with two strikeouts and a ground out to third base to seal the win.

San Marcos returns home Friday to complete their two game series against Cibolo Steele. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.

The Rattlers will also play on Saturday at home against the San Antonio O’Connor Panthers. First pitch for San Marcos- O’Connor is set for 1 p.m.
