Rotarians from a variety of communities in Northern Mexico and South Central Texas gathered in San Marcos on March 21 and 22 for a Bi-National Rotary Conference. Emphasis during the meetings was on cooperative service projects involving Rotarians from both countries, including water sanitation, surgical intervention for children with cleft palates and emergency shelter relief. The conference was hosted by Rotary clubs in San Marcos and Del Rio as well as Ciudad Acuña, Mexico. The event also included a glass bottom boat tour at Spring Lake and a dinner and dance featuring a musical performance by Salsa Del Rio from Texas State University.
Rotary is nonprofit, nonpolitical and nonreligious. There are 45,000 clubs in 200 countries around the world. San Marcos Rotary was chartered in 1921 and has 70 members. It meets Wednesdays at noon at the VFW Hall on Hunter Road.
