After ending the series following a 1-0 win on Saturday, the Bobcats were unable to come away with the Sunday afternoon victory, falling to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 10-3.
The Bobcats fall to 1215 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
“We just didn’t play good baseball today,” Head Coach Steven Trout said. “The offense got off to a slow start again. I thought [Jackson] Teer was okay at times but not his best. We just gave up too many free passes and easy runs there and just [played] bad baseball at times. I thought their guy was good on the mound and dictated the bat some. We fought there a little bit to get back in there and then gave it up.

“We just have to keep fighting. It isn’t getting any easier with Texas and Louisiana and down the road, so we have to find a way to get the guys better and make some changes.”
It was a tough weekend offensive for the Bobcats who scored a total of four runs through three games.
After being shut out on Friday 7-0, the Bobcats scored the only run of the game on Saturday following a Chase Mora RBI single to beat Coastal Carolina 1-0.
With the series even at 1-1, Texas State looked to take a critical conference series win over one of the top teams in the conference.
However, the Chanticleers capitalized on a Bobcat fielding error and a bases-loaded walk to go up 2-0. Coastal added another run on a base hit that bounced off starting pitcher Jackson Teer to go up 3-0.
Despite the Bobcats scoring their first run on a wild pitch, Coastal scored four unanswered runs to lead 7-1 en route to the 10-3 win.
After the game, Trout had a serious conversation with the players about the state of the program after losing three out of the four games during the week as well as the performance on Sunday.
“[For an] 11 a.m. game, I didn’t think we were energetic enough,” Trout said. “I didn’t think our [competitiveness] was there. Overall, I just thought some guys were OK with losing right now, and I’m not OK with that. We take a lot of pride in this place and pride in what we’re doing. For me, it’s getting these guys motivated and making sure we’re showing up and getting after it.”
The schedule does not become any easier for the Bobcats who make the trip up I-35 for the annual showdown with the Texas Longhorns before going across the state border in a rivalry showdown with the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns in conference play.
As the Bobcats enter the month of April, Trout and the staff will shake things up in order to turn things around.
“You have to be real with them,” Trout said. “When you fluff things for [the players], it doesn’t work out for them. You have to be real with kids these days, and … losing is unacceptable. We have to find changes in who is playing, who we’re not playing.
“Every day for them is a job interview, so we have to find a way to get them better each day.”
Texas State returns to play Tuesday night on the road against the No. 5 ranked Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns are coming off a conference series sweep against the Missouri Tigers and are riding a six-game winning streak.
The Tuesday game against the Bobcats and the Longhorns will be the 71st all-time meeting between the two teams with the series dating back to 1986. Last season, Texas State won the three game series against the Longhorns, beating Texas in Houston 11-10 then winning in Austin 7-3.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
