The Rattlers completed the two-game sweep over the Judson Rockets, winning their Friday game 5-0 before beating the Kyle Lehman Lobos 16-4 on Saturday.
The pair of wins improves San Marcos’ record to 14-5-1 overall and their district record to 5-2, trailing district leader Schertz Clemens by one game.
In the win against Judson, the Rattlers were powered by the pitching performance of junior Cole Wiatrek. Wiatrek threw a complete game shutout through seven innings, allowing just four hits, no earned runs, no walks and striking out 14 batters.
On the offense, the Rattlers were shutout through five innings before coming through in the sixth inning.
After a one-out double from Elijah Ramirez, Jack Vasquez connected with an RBI triple to score the first run for the Rattlers and give San Marcos the lead at 1-0.
Following a flyout to center field, Vasquez stole home to add another run for the Rattlers now up 2-0.
Despite two outs, the Rattlers were able to load up the bases and threatened to add on to their lead. Using their aggressive baserunning tactics, Miguel Garcia, Jyuan Alonso and Kayden Miranda all stole home, extending the Rattler lead to 5-0., In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Rockets loaded up the bases with one out, looking to score their first runs of the game and steal a win away from the Rattlers. However, Wiatrek struck out the next two batters to seal both the win and the shutout victory.
Following the tough road win, the Rattlers made the trip up I-35 into Kyle for a non-district showdown with Hays County neighbor Lehman.
The Lobos struck first after a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning. However, the Rattlers extracted their revenge in the top of the second. San Marcos scored 10 runs, using excellent batting approaches to force six walks in the inning including five walks with bases loaded.
Going into the third inning, the Rattlers led 10-1.
The Lobos were unable to overcome the deficit as San Marcos rolled to a 16-4 win over Lehman.
