Texas Performing Arts announces 2025-2026 adway In Austin season

Every year, Texas Performing Arts brings a variety of quality plays and musicals to audiences in Central Texas, and this year, it’s going above and beyond. From new shows playing at Bass Concert Hall for the first time to tried-andtrue classics to new beloved musicals, TPA will present 10 shows for its 2025-26 Broadway In Austin season.

“I’m excited to share our new season with Austin’s passionate Broadway community,” Texas Performing Arts’ Executive and Artistic Director Bob Bursey, said. “Over the past year — and many trips to New York — we’ve worked to put together a great selection of shows. I’m proud that the 2025-2026 Broadway In Austin Season will feature the winner of Best New Musical for 2023 (Kimberly Akimbo) AND 2024 (The Outsiders). That doesn’t happen often, and it underlines our commitment to supporting exciting new musicals. I’m also proud of how Austin is part of the creative conversation on Broadway now, with shows like The Outsiders—whose music was created by Austin band Jamestown Revival.”

Kicking off the season with its first national tour is five-time Tony Award-winning Best Musical, Kimberly Akimbo. New to most audiences, this musical is about growing up and old. Nearly 16, Kimberly moves with her family to a suburban town in New Jersey, where she is forced to deal with family dysfunction, a rare genetic condition, her first crush and possible felony charges, but ever the optimist, she is determined to find happiness in her grand adventure.

Kimberly Akimbo will take the Bass Concert Stage Sept. 30 - Oct. 5.

Next up, it’s time to stay gold with the groundbreaking musical The Outsiders. Based on the seminal novel from S. E. Hintor, The Outsiders tells the story of Ponyboy Curtis, his best friend Johnny Cade and their Greaser family of outcasts who battle with their well-to-do rivals, the Socs. The Outsiders is a story of friendship, family, belonging and the persistent belief that there is still “a lot of good in the world.”

The Outsiders will play at Bass Concert Hall Oct. 21 26.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast will make its enchanted return to Bass Concert Hall right in time for the winter holidays. Filled with grandeur and romance, Beauty and Beast brings dazzling costumes and breathtaking sets to the stage. This beloved musical will fill audiences’ hearts with magic at Bass Concert Hall from Dec. 2 - 14.

TPA will welcome the new year with the return of the musical Six. Tudor Queens turned Pop Icons, Six tells the true stories of the six wives of Henry the VIII, remixing five centuries of historical heartbreak into a celebration of 21st century girl power. Six serves as one of the season ticket holder add-ons and will play Bass Concert Hall from Jan. 20 - 25, 2026.

Continuing the lineup in the new year, TPA will bring one of the most cherished musicals of all time, The Sound of Music. For 65 years, this show has been an audience favorite with a timeless story and charming score. The Sound of Music is the iconic tale of a spirited nun who chooses to live her life by following her heart. The Sound of Music comes to Austin Feb. 3 - 8, 2026.

Next up is a musical of dazzling scope and opulence, The Great Gatsby. This glittering extravaganza is based on the classic American novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The musical chronicles a journey of love, wealth and tragedy that perfectly frames the glitz and glamour of the Roaring Twenties.

A truly must-see experience of epic costumes and set pieces, The Great Gatsby will come to Bass Concert Hall March 10 -15, 2026.

Returning by popular demand to Bass Concert Hall is a new show that is already on its way to becoming a classic: Hadestown. A contemporary retelling of the Greek tragedy of Orpheus and Eurydice, Hadestown features unforgettable vocal performances and a story that will have you hoping against hope until the very last note. At once hopeful and haunting, Hadestown is a show you won’t want to miss. It comes back to the Bass Concert Hall stage for a short time only, Feb. 20 -22, 2026.

The next offering from TPA will have you laughing, maybe crying, but definitely singing along with Mamma Mia! Set on a Greek island paradise cut off from the fast-paced world, Mamma Mia tells the story of a once-wild Mom, her soon-to-be-married daughter and her three potential fathers. One of the most sing-along-able shows in history, Mamma Mia will come to Austin April 14 - 19, 2026.

TPA follows this up with another musical that took the world by storm: The Wiz. Direct from Broadway, The Wiz is an all-new tour based on The Wizard of Oz. When it first opened in the 70s, The Wiz changed the face of Broadway with its legendary score packed with soul, gospel, rock and funk. The choreography features a fusion of ballet, jazz and modern pop sure to keep audiences easin’ on down the road.

The Wiz will play at Bass Concert Hall from May 12 - 17, 2026.

The season closes with & Juliet, a musical that flips the script on the greatest love story ever told. Ever think what would happen if Juliet didn’t end things over Romeo? Created by the Emmy-winning writer from Schitt’s Creek, & Juliet follows the title character as she ditches that tired, old ending in favor of a fresh new life.

& Juliet will set the record straight at Bass Concert Hall July 14 - 29, 2026.
