The Bobcats fell on the road against archrival UTSA, falling to the Roadrunners 12-9 in the 104th all-time meeting between the I-35 rivals.

The loss drops Texas State’s overall record to 1113.

The Bobcats got off to a rough start when UTSA opened up the game by scoring 10 unanswered runs in the first five innings of the game.

Heading into the top of the seventh inning, the Bobcats trailed 10-0.

The Texas State offense found their mojo in the seventh inning when junior third baseman Justin Vossos hit a lead-off home run for the Bobcats’ first run of the game. Later in the same at-bat, junior first baseman Chase Mora hit a two-run home run, cutting the deficit down to 10-3.

The Bobcats continued their offensive momentum in the eighth inning. Vossos struck again, hitting an RBI single up the middle for another run. Later, freshman second baseman Dawson Park hit an RBI double, cutting the lead down to 10-5.

UTSA added on to their lead, scoring two runs on an RBI single as Texas State entered their final at-bat of the game down 12-5.

Senior designated hitter Ian Collier got the bats going, scoring a run on the fielder’s choice combined with an UTSA fielding error.

Junior catcher Theo Kummer then connected with a three-run home run over the wall in left field, making it a 12-9 game. Unfortunately the Bobcats were unable to complete the comeback and dropped their game to the Roadrunners at 12-9.

Texas State will be back in San Marcos this weekend for a three-game conference series against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. Coastal Carolina is coming off a series loss to Troy this past weekend and an upset win over the No. 3 ranked Clemson Tigers on Tuesday.

First pitch for Friday’s game is set for 6 p.m.
