There was not a sunny forecast for the Bobcats going into their home conference series against the Arkansas State Red Wolves, having lost six games in a row including a 19-3 loss to Baylor last Tuesday. However, there wasn’t much time to dwell on the losses for junior Chase Mora.
“[You] forget about it,” Mora said. “We have the midnight rule. You have to learn how to flush games and learn how to go show up the next day. Work hard and just keep competing is what Trout always tells us.”
The result was the Bobcats completing a threegame sweep of the Red Wolves, including a 6-3 win on Sunday.
It was a much needed sweep for Texas State and Head Coach Steven Trout, who improved their overall record to 11-12 and their conference record to 3-3 after being swept by App State last weekend.

“It’s huge,” Trout said. “Everybody’s best battle, especially on Sundays. It was going to be a close game. I knew it would be. It all starts with Jackson Teer.
That’s the reason we recruited him, a ton of strikes, center early contact, really good job at the slider, and he got seven innings.
“It was a really good job by our starting pitching all week going to sixth and seventh [innings] all week long. When you do that, it limits how many guys you have to put out there.”
Starting pitcher Jackson Teer earned his first win of the season, throwing seven innings, allowing just two hits, two earned runs, two walks and striking out five batters.
After struggling during the early part of the season, grabbing his first win of the year was a good feeling for Teer.
“It feels great,” Teer said. “It really sucked going 0-4, but the offense came out with a big lead. It’s really easy to pitch with a good lead so I credited that.”
Trout was also proud of his starting pitcher after battling the early struggles of the season.
“It was a really good job for him,” Trout said. “Throwing a lot of strikes and responding back. He had some injury stuff going on, was hit in the forearm during early preseason, a lot of things you can’t really plan for.
He was dealing with the back issue all week, so he just came out and gutted it out. We have to have that, because if we could throw those three guys like that, we can win a lot of baseball games.” The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the first inning following an RBI single from Ian Collier before Mora connected with a threerun home run to put the Bobcats up 4-0.
It was an important key in the game for Trout and the Bobcats to take the lead early.
“What we talked about is trying to get home early and try to put them away,” Trout said. “Obviously, we let them hang around there in the middle innings.
They had the home run and got going a little bit, but it’s a really good start. Now we gotta do a better job next week.”
Mora finished the game going 4-4 with a single, two doubles, a home run and three RBIs.
Texas State returns to play Tuesday on the road against the archrival UTSA Roadrunners. The Roadrunners are coming off a conference series win over the Charlotte 49ers.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio.
