Rattlers drop home game against Canyon

SMHS SOFTBALL

The Rattlers fell at home to the New Braunfels Canyon Cougarettes, losing 21-3.

The loss drops San Marcos’ record to 10-11-1 overall and their district record to 1-6.

The Rattlers struck first against the Cougarettes in the bottom of the first inning. Following a leadoff single from A’Kyia Spillers and a Canyon fielding error that put runners on second and third, Emalyn Martinez hit a sacrifice fly to score Spillers, giving the Rattlers a 1-0 lead.

San Marcos added on to their lead as Arianna Flores grounded out to the shortstop to allow Kendra Robledo to score from third.

At the end of the first inning, the Rattlers led 2-0.

The San Marcos’ lead didn’t last long as Canyon scored six unanswered runs to lead the Rattlers 6-2.

Martinez cut the deficit down in the bottom of the third, hitting an RBI single and making the score 6-3. Unfortunately for the Rattlers, it marked the last time San Marcos added a crooked number to the scoreboard.

Canyon scored 15 unanswered runs, including 12 in the fifth inning to defeat San Marcos 21-3.

The Rattlers will be back home Tuesday night against Hays County rival Buda Johnson.

First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
