Texas State won their first conference series of the season, beating the Arkansas State Red Wolves 5-4 in the second game of the series.

Following their 6-2 win on Friday, the Bobcats and Head Coach Steve Trout improved their record to 10-12 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

“It was really big,” Trout said. “We've been battling through it. We all know that, but really proud of how these guys worked this week. They keep fighting, showing up to work every day and have done a really good job the last few days of finding ways to win. So now it's time to offset the sweep last week, show up tomorrow and go get a sweep ourselves.”

The Bobcats struck first with a two-run inside the park home run by freshman outfielder Caden Baker in his first career hit.

Arkansas State answered back in the next at-bat with a two-run double, tying the game at 2-2.

Freshman Dawson Park gave the lead back to the Bobcats in the bottom of the second inning, blasting a leadoff home run into center field going up 3-2.

The Red Wolves answered once more, hitting a sacrifice fly to the tie the game back up at 3-3.

After a couple of scoreless innings, Park gave the lead back to Texas State. Facing bases loaded, Park forced the walk for the easy RBI and gave the Bobcats the lead again up 4-3. Despite having the bases loaded with no outs, the Bobcats were unable to bring in any more runs.

The Red Wolves answered back once again as Texas State committed a balk with a runner on third, tying the game up at 4-4.

However, Texas State gave out the last answer. Following a leadoff double from Ryne Farber and a single from Ian Collier to put runners on the corners, Farber crossed home plate for the run and put the Bobcats back up 5-4.

Entering the game from the bullpen, pitcher Bryson Dudley completed the save with two strikeouts to seal the win.

Texas State goes for the sweep on Sunday against Arkansas State to close out the series. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
