Hays county has seen an increase in this spending for both the month and year to date. The city of San Marcos cannot say the same as spending is down for both the month and year to date.
The sales tax rate allocation given by the Office of the State Comptroller for the city of San Marcos is 1.5%.
The sales tax allocation for March, representing sales made in January in San Marcos, has gone down 4.68% compared to the same month last year.
The amount allocated to the city for sales made in January is $2,763,400, down from $2,899,380 for the same period in the previous year.
The amount of allocations for the entire year to date is down 0.28% from last year.
Year to date, the city received a total of $10,296,306 in allocations, and year to date for 2024 was $10,326,070.
The tax rate allocation for unincorporated Hays County is 0.5%. The allocation for March, representing sales made in January for the county, is $2,402,527, which is up 2.75% from last year in the same period last year when it received $2,338,038. The payment to the county year to date is $8,783,436, which is up 9.02% from last year.
In 2024, Hays County received $8,056,282 for the year by this time.
All cities in Hays County except the city of Hays, Dripping Springs, Buda and San Marcos are up from last year for this tax allocation period, and San Marcos and the city of Hays are the only cities down year to date, as compared to 2024.
Here’s how the rest of the county’s municipalities fared:
• Buda: Monthly allocation is $886,834, down 4.28%. Year to date total is $3,357,405, up 3.45%.
• Dripping Springs: Monthly allocation is $313,140, down 1.68%. Year to date total is $1,319,191, up 7.67%.
• Hays City: Monthly allocation is $2,518, down 55.92%. Year to date total is $8,924, down 13.66%.
• Kyle: Monthly allocation is $1,354,075, up 9.7%. Year to date total is $4,983,029, up 12.15%.
• Mountain City: Monthly allocation is $3,487, up 92.49%. Year to date total is $11,408, up 28.09%.
• Niederwald: Monthly allocation is $20,489, up 72.45%. Year to date total is $60,362, up 60.63%.
• Uhland: Monthly allocation is $75,498, up 79.76%. Year to date total is $205,800, up 50.72%.
• Wimberley: Monthly allocation is $113,146, up 8.69%. Year to date total is $436,606, up 8.22%.
• Woodcreek: Monthly allocation is $9,015, up 11.03%. Year to date total is $29,742, up 5.89%. Buda, Kyle, Uhland and San Marcos have a sales tax rate of 1.5%. The sales tax rate in Dripping Springs is 1.25%, and it is 1% in Hays City, Mountain City, Niederwald, Wimberley and Woodcreek.
