The Rattlers staved off a late comeback by the New Braunfels Long Creek Dragons to find their way back into the win column with a 13-6 victory.
The win improves San Marcos’ record to 10-101 overall.
The Rattlers scored their first runs of the game in the first inning as A’Kyia Spillers on a passed ball.
In the same at-bat, Emalyn Martinez hit into a fielder’s choice to score another run and extend the Rattler lead to 2-0.
Later in the same inning, Emery Cisneros hit an RBI single, making the score 3-0.
Going into the second inning, the Rattlers added on to their lead. Martinez scored another RBI on the fielder’ choice with runners on the corners, extending the lead to 4-0.
In the third inning, the Rattlers tacked on two more runs when Addison Castillo hit a two-run RBI single, making it a 6-0 game.
The next inning saw the Rattlers score more runs with runners on first and second. Cisneros hit another RBI single to make it 7-0 before the Rattlers capitalized on the Long Creek error to score two more runs.
In the same inning, Spillers hit an RBI single before Kendra Robledo hit an RBI single of her own, putting San Marcos up 11-0.
The top of the fifth inning saw the Rattlers again extend their lead. Selena Silva hit an RBI single to score another run before Cisneros hit again an RBI single, pushing the San Marcos lead to 13-0.
The Long Creek offense found their rhythm in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring four runs before a two run sixth inning. However the Rattler defense shut the door on a Dragon comeback to seal the win at 13-6.
Rae Ybarra earned the win for the Rattlers, pitching through four innings and allowing six hits, no earned runs, one walk while striking out four batters. Nevaeh Salinas closed out the game for San Marcos allowing four hits, four earned runs, four walks and striking out one batter.
The Rattlers will be back home Friday against the New Braunfels Canyon Cougarettes. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
