Centro celebrating National Youth Art Month with exhibit

CENTRO CULTURAL HISPANO DE SAN MARCOS

March is designated as National Youth Art Month, a special occasion to encourage and celebrate budding artists. To be part of this celebration, Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos is exhibiting children’s artworks in its gallery from now until April 15.

The public reception for this year’s exhibit will take place on Sunday, March 30 from 3 to 5 p.m. The exhibit will remain on display through April 15.

Along with works of ArtSpace — Centro’s free art education program students — artworks by Crossroads Transitional Program students and Wonderland School students are on display at the Centro gallery. More than 130 artworks in different mediums have been displayed.

“Most of the ArtSpace spring program classes are full, and we already have these vibrant and beautiful artworks by our students,” said Debangana Banerjee, Centro ArtSpace coordinator. “Their age range is three to 18. Students from Texas State University are doing a fabulous job in teaching ArtSpace classes, and I see every week how eagerly the children wait to meet their art teachers! I want to heartily thank Art Education faculty Photos courtesy of Debangana Banerjee. members at Texas State University for constantly encouraging their students to teach at Centro.”

Debangana Banerjee is also the art teacher at Wonderland School. She is hoping to involve more area schools in Centro YAM next year.
