In the complete opposite of their game on Tuesday, the Rattlers dropped their second district game of the season, losing to the Schertz Clemens Buffaloes 14-9.
The loss drops San Marcos’ record to 8-5-1 overall and their district record to 1-2.
The Rattlers struck first with a two-run RBI single from catcher Colsen Geesee, putting San Marcos up 2-0. The Buffaloes answered back with a fiverun inning to retake the lead at 5-2.
Third baseman Mason Gamboa hit an RBI single in the top of the second to cut the lead down to 5-3 before the Buffaloes tacked on three more runs to lead 8-3. After a Clemens’ RBI single, the Rattlers entered the fourth trailing 9-3.
Despite trailing by a significant margin, the Rattlers attempted the comeback. Loading up the bases with one out, Charlie Helgeson forced a bases-loaded walk, adding a run for the Rattlers. Following a strikeout, Elijah Ramirez forced a bases- loaded walk of his own, making it a 9-5 game. Jack Vasquez followed up with a two-run RBI single, allowing the Rattlers to cut the deficit down to 9-7.
Clemens later added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth before a threerun sixth inning extended the lead. The Rattlers added two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings but were unable to complete the comeback falling 14-9.
San Marcos will be on the road Tuesday before coming back home Friday in a two-game series with the East Central Hornets. The Hornets enter the game with a 7-5 overall record and a 2-1 district record. In their last district series, East Central split with Cibolo Steele.
First pitch for Tuesday night is set for 7 p.m. at East Central High School.
