The slump continues for Texas State as the Bobcats were swept on the road at App State, culminating in a 10-8 loss on Sunday.
Texas State falls to 8-11 overall and 0-3 in conference play. Since the Bobcats win over No. 1 Texas A&M, Texas State is just 2-9 over their last 11 games.
In Sunday’s game, the Bobcats fell behind 7-0 through the first four innings of the game. However, the Bobcats scored seven unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game at 7-7. Despite the comeback attempt, App State scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to retake the lead and seal the sweep at 10-8.
On Saturday, the Bobcats found themselves trailing at 7-4 going into the eighth inning. But a three-run inning by Texas State tied the game at 7-7. The Bobcats kept App State from winning the game in the ninth inning when sophomore Samson Pugh made a massive throw from center to home plate to get the out, sending the game into extra innings.
Texas State had a chance to take the lead in the top of the 11th with bases loaded and no outs. But the Bobcats struck out three times in a row, allowing App State to come back to bat and win the game on a walkoff single.
The start of the series began on Friday with Texas State losing to App State 15-4.
The Bobcats are back home Tuesday night in a showdown with the Baylor Bears. The Bears enter the game with a 14-5 overall record and are coming off a conference series loss to the Kansas Jayhawks.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
