Several SMHS Basketball players earn All-District honors

SMHS BASKETBALL

Several Rattler and Lady Rattler basketball players were selected to their respective all-district teams and even earned all-regional honors.

Coming off of a historic season, the Lady Rattlers made the regional final for the first time since 1992 and just for the second time in program history.

Senior point guard Ezra Tobias was named 1st Team All-District, averaging 9.8 points per game, 4.1 rebounds per game, 3.4 assists per game and 3.3 steals per game.

Junior forward Melayna Perkins also was named 1st Team All-District. Perkins averaged 10.3 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game.

Joining both Tobias and Perkins in earning 1st Team All-District honors is junior Azariah Fennell. Fennell led the team in scoring and rebounding average with 13.1 points per game, 5.7 rebounds per game and 3.3 steals per game.

Sophomore Rileigh Good was named 2nd Team All-District. Good averaged 9.3 points per game, 2.5 rebounds per game, 2.7 assists per game and 2.9 steals per game.

Earning Honorable Mention honors is the trio of senior Ayleceia Pierson, junior Rianna Garcia and senior center Brooklyn Harris. Pierson averaged 6.5 points per game, 4.1 rebounds per game and 2.6 steals per game. Garcia averaged 2.2 points per game and 2.6 rebounds per game. Harris averaged 3.3 points per game and 2.3 points per game.

Making the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Region team is Fennell, being named the 6A Region 4 team.

Harris and senior Lelia Hernandez were both named to the Texas High School Coaches Association All-State Academic team.

For the Rattlers, three players were named to the All-District team with seniors Donovan Riddick and Cash Good were both earned 1st Team honors.

Riddick led the team in scoring average with 19.7 points along with averaging 8.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists. Good averaged 16.9 points per game, 4.2 rebounds per game, 5.9 assists per game and 2.2 steals per game.

Earning 2nd Team honors is senior Josiah Hollmon, averaging 14.9 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists.
