The Rattlers fell in extra innings to Schertz Clemens as the Buffaloes scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning, handing San Marcos a 5-0 loss.
The Rattlers drop their overall record to 8-4-1 and their district record to 1-1.
Through seven innings, both the Rattlers and the Buffaloes were held scoreless by their respective pitchers. San Marcos starting pitcher Jack Vasquez threw seven innings and allowed no runs, no hits, three walks and struck out 13 batters.
The Rattler offense was held to just two hits through seven innings.
In the top of the eighth inning, Clemens reached base on a walk and a single, their first hit of the game. An RBI double followed by a sac bunt put the Buffaloes up 2-0 on the Rattlers. Later in the at-bat, Clemens scored on a Rattler fielding error before a tworun RBI single extended the San Marcos’ deficit to 5-0.
In their final at-bat, the Rattlers fell in order.
San Marcos will look to bounce back on the road against Clemens Friday night at 7 p.m.
