LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Dear Editor: One of the most disturbing things about Donald Trump’s claims of power beyond the law, power beyond the Constitution and power that lifts him above his fellow citizens and makes him as a king, is the absolute silence of the elected public officials who represent me in Congress: Senator John Cornyn, Senator Ted Cruz and Representative Chip Roy. Each of these individuals has taken an oath “to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Standing by, mutely, as the Chief Constitutional Officer of the Executive Branch declares himself above the law is a complete abdication of their responsibility under that oath, making each of them a party to Trump’s continued usurpation of the Constitutional order. We must demand more from our public officials than averting their gaze from Trump’s clear contempt for democracy and the rule of law.
