One of my favorite nonprofits in San Marcos is School Fuel. They provide food for SMCISD students outside of the school day. I heard a presentation from the group a few years ago at the weekly Rotary Club meeting, and they talked about how difficult it is – both physically and mentally – to learn when you’re hungry. This amounts to providing around 1,300 students with a sack full of nutritious food to go home with on the weekends. What a powerful cause to support. On Saturday, March 1, the Fill the Sack 5k and Kids Fun Run will raise funds for School Fuel San Marcos. The set up is at Country Estates Swimming Pool, located at 712 Country Estates Drive. Registration starts at 7 a.m. The 5k Run/Walk starts at 8 a.m., and the Kids Fun Run starts at 9 a.m. Registration on Race Day is $40 but donations are also welcome.
