San Marcos student awarded prestigious scholarship

Pacific Lutheran University is pleased to announce that Lukas Bauerkemper, a student at San Marcos High School, has been named a President’s Scholar, earning a scholarship of $34,000 per year. Bauerkemper is one of 133 President’s Scholars that were selected from a pool of over 400 applicants. All applicants met a rigorous standard of academic excellence; however, students awarded this scholarship displayed exemplary qualities in leadership, service and academics, while also displaying the potential to enrich our campus community in the classroom and beyond. This year’s President’s Scholars have a cumulative average weighted GPA of 4.05.

These top students were invited to join us on campus later this February to interview for the next tiers of PLU scholarships — the $40,000 per year Harstad Scholarship and full-tuition Regents’ Scholarship.

A small private university in Tacoma’s Parkland neighborhood, PLU is known for its commitment to public service, robust student support services and academic rigor. The PLU experience allows students’ ambition to blossom into purpose, their skills to sharpen into tools and their caring to become a transformative force in the world.
