LETTER TO THE EDITOR
When our nation was birthed, powerful men intentionally ignored the fact that slaves were human beings not “property.” This action caused racial bias, which continues to hurt our nation today.
The Civil War did not solve racial inequalities. Nor did the Civil Rights laws solve all. We need our Nation to seek repentance for the sin of slavery on the people of Africa brought to America against their will. They did not choose to immigrate. This original injustice needs to be addressed. As our President, I ask Donald J. Trump to please make a formal apology on behalf of all citizens.
I would like to mention two books that I enjoyed that touch on these topics: Original Sins by Eve Ewing and A More Beautiful and Terrible History by Jeanne Theoharis.
