Texas State dropped their Sun Belt-MAC Challenge game to the Western Michigan Broncos, falling 59-50.
It was another rough night for the Bobcats and Head Coach Zenarae Antoine as Texas State had 20 turnovers in the game.
“I'm honestly disappointed,” Antoine said. “You need to be able to see gains from these turnovers. … You see valiant effort to fight, to get us back in a position, but it's the unforced turnovers. Now it's just the doing. There's only so much film you can watch right at the beginning of February, so we have six games left of the regular season. and changes need to be made.
“Even with substitutions, we don't necessarily see an at upticket times from that standpoint of turnovers. They're deflating and really tough.”
The Bobcats and the Broncos went back and forth in the first quarter with both teams trading the lead.
With the game tied at 9-9, Western Michigan hit a three pointer with 16 seconds remaining in the game to lead 12-9 into the second quarter.
Following a pair of free throws from senior Jaylin Foster, the Bobcats cut the lead down to 15-13.
The Broncos responded with a 8-0 run and took their largest lead of the first half at 23-13.
Texas State responded with a run of their own, going on a 9-2 run to make it a one possession game at 25-22 following a layup from Foster.
But Western Michigan ended the period on a short 5-0 run to lead Texas State 29-22 going into halftime.
The Broncos exploded in the third quarter, going on a 10-1 run to take their largest lead of the game at 39-23.
The Bobcats rallied at the end of the period and entered the fourth quarter trailing 43-34.
Western Michigan once again expanded their lead as Texas State faced a 52-38 deficit.
However Texas State answered back. A 10-0 run by the Bobcats capped off by a three-pointer from senior forward Nicole Leff made it a four-point game at 52-48.
Unfortunately for the Bobcats, it was the last time Texas State could get close to taking back the lead.
Texas State could only hit one field goal in the last three minutes of the game while Western Michigan sealed the Bobcats’ fate by hitting critical free throws. The end result was a 59-50 loss for the Bobcats.
Foster led the team in scoring with 19 points. Senior guard Destiny Terrell led the team in rebounds with 11.
Texas State will be back on the road this Wednesday against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
