TULSA 21 STAGE READING AT THE PRICE CENTER

Though my husband and my Dad both grew up in Oklahoma, neither of them knew about the events of the Tulsa race riot of 1921. This tumultuous event occurred in the Greenwood District, an affluent African American community. This thriving business district and the surrounding residential area was referred to as “Black Wall Street,” and it was almost completely destroyed in what is one of the single worst incidences of racial violence in American history. On Saturday, the Price Center will hold a stage reading of a screenplay titled “Tulsa ’21,” inspired by these true events. Written by Joe Fikes and Anita Azenet, “Tulsa ’21” is about two star-crossed lovers caught in the crossfire of the riot. In this reading, audience members will follow them as they navigate the racial tensions that sparked this tragedy. The stage reading will begin at 6 p.m. at the Price Center. Admission is free, but please RSVP via this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/.../tulsa- 21-a-staged-reading
