Texas State is picked to win the Sun Belt Conference, according to the preseason coaches poll, while sophomore pitcher Madison Azua was named Sun Belt Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
The Bobcats earned five first place votes and received 134 points to earn the top spot in the preseason poll, beating rival Louisiana who finished in second place.
Texas State is coming off a historic 2024 season, finishing with a record of 4715. The Bobcats captured the Sun Belt Tournament Championship, beating Louisiana in the final, and they earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Texas State advanced to the regional final before falling to Texas A&M.
Azua returns for the Bobcats after her freshman season and has the lowest ERA out of the returning pitchers in the Sun Belt. Azua completed her freshman year with a 9-5 overall record, an ERA of 2.17 and striking out 81 batters.
Azua was also named the Preseason All-Sun Belt along with senior outfielder Ciara Trahan.
Trahan completed the 2024 season with a batting average of .339 in 118 at-bats and hit in 18 RBIs and six doubles. Trahan missed the later half of the 2024 season with a knee injury.
