TXST MEN’S BASKETBALL
Texas State fell in the road showdown with the Arkansas State Red Wolves, losing 80-65.
The loss drops the Bobcats overall record to 12-9 and their conference record to 5-4.
“It was a typical slugfest in the Sun Belt,” Head Coach Terrence Johnson said. “We struggled to play through [Arkansas State’s] physicality. You have got to give them credit. They met us at the line of scrimmage and controlled the pace of the game. Arkansas State did a really good job of changing ends, and we got to do a better job in our transition defense, but we also had a lot of live ball turnovers to kind of fuel them on their home floor.
“I think we need to focus on simplifying the game plan a little bit, being more straight forward and direct getting downhill to create some opportunities like we did late in the game. We are looking forward to getting back to San Marcos to regroup and see what next week brings.”
Senior forward Joshua O’Garro led the team in both scoring and rebounds with 21 points and 13 boards to complete the double-double. It is O’Garro’s second career double-double.
Senior forward Tylan Pope was second in scoring with 19 points followed by junior guard Coleton Benson with 15 points.
Texas State returns to play Thursday night in a showdown with the rival Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. The Bobcats defeated the Cajuns last Thursday on road in a 89-74 win for Texas State.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Strahan Arena.
