Moulin Rouge comes to Austin May 13 - 25
Enter a world of splendor, romance, glamour and glory as Moulin Rouge takes the Bass Concert Hall stage May 13 - 25. Winner of 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the “spectacular spectacular” musical embraces La Vie de Boheme — a life where Bohemians and aristocrats share the same rarefied air of turn-of-the-century Paris.
Due to its widespread popularity, Moulin Rouge will play for an extended run in Austin. Based on the visionary movie directed by Baz Lurhmann, Moulin Rouge! The Musical originally opened to critical acclaim in the summer of 2019. The stage version draws audiences into the glitzy world of the iconic Moulin Rouge cabaret with larger-than-life sets and glittery costumes. The play features many of the same genre-blurring songs as the film, and also includes recent hits released since the movie’s premiere 21 years ago. Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge! debuted at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. At the 74th Academy Awards, the film was nominated for eight Oscars, including Best Picture.
At once timeless and timely, Moulin Rouge celebrates the core ideals of the Bohemians: Truth, beauty, freedom and — above all else — love. More than a musical, Moulin Rouge! is a state of mind.
Moulin Rouge! The Musical will play May 13 - 25, Tuesdays through Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.; Fridays at 8 p.m.; Saturdays at 2 and 8 p.m.; and Sundays at 1 and 6:30 p.m. Tickets start at $35 and are available at texasperformingarts. org and BroadwayinAustin. com, by phone at (512) 477-1444 or from the Texas Performing Arts ticket office at Bass Concert Hall.
