Texas State dropped their home game against the Troy Trojans, losing 105-58 during the Bobcats annual Kid’s Day game.
The loss drops Texas State’s overall record to 9-9 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
“From a basketball perspective, I'm pretty disappointed,” Head Coach Zenarae Antoine said. “I'm disappointed that we didn't put a better product out there today and specifically our understanding of how tough it is to be able to rebound against the number one team in the nation.
“We started to get them to miss shots and we struggled getting them to box out. … We had to find ways to make adjustments and we talked about it at halftime. I liked that we gave them some tougher looks, but again, it comes down to being able to box out and rebound and then take care of the basketball.”
The Trojans jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the Bobcats before Texas State went on a7-2 run to cut the lead down to 9-7, following a layup from graduate senior point guard Destiny Terrell.
Troy hit a three-pointer to extend their lead only for Terrell to hit her own three-pointer and make it a 12-10 game.
However, it was the closest the Bobcats made the Troy deficit. The Trojans ended the first quarter on a 15-0 run and entered the second quarter up 27-10.
The Bobcats were unable to find any offensive momentum in the second quarter with Troy outscoring Texas State 25-14 during the period to enter halftime up 52-24.
The struggles continued for the Bobcats in the third quarter. Troy continued their offensive dominance while Texas State struggled offensively, making just one field goal in the quarter.
Going into the fourth quarter, Texas State trailed 82-35.
Texas State found the offense they needed in the fourth quarter but the massive deficit was too much for the Bobcats to overcome. The Trojans crossed the century in points en route to a 105-58 win.
Senior power forward Jaylin Foster led the team in scoring with 12 points while surpassing 1,000 career points.
“I'm glad it happened at home so her friends and family and teammates can celebrate with her,” Antoine said. “I'm really excited to add her to a long list of Bobcats that hit the 1K mark for us. She has much more of her career left and so she'll continue to build on that.
“She'll be the first to tell you that it's tough when you come with a loss. I know for sure that she wanted to win this game and win it with her teammates as she surpassed the mark, but it's really exciting when the Bobcats achieve.”
Texas State will be back home Saturday against the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
