The Texas AFL-CIO, representing more than 240,000 union workers and their families across the state, released their Fair Shot Legislative Agenda for the 89th Texas Legislative Session.
“Texas workers are fed up and ready to demand more from our state officials,” Texas AFL-CIO President Rick Levy said. “We want to see our state lawmakers fight for workers, not their billionaire backers. We want wages to go up. We want our public school teachers supported. We want our retirees taken care of, and we want our families to be able to make ends meet. These pro-worker priorities are the standard we’ll be holding our elected officials to this session.”
The Texas AFL-CIO laid out 10 priorities for the next 140 days. Lawmakers should:
• Increase wages and expand workplace benefits.
• Protect workers on the job.
• Expand paid leave for families.
• Protect all workers, no matter their status.
• Support our schools and teachers.
• Reduce state employee turnover.
• Support public sector retirees.
• Fix the unemployment system.
• Create jobs in clean energy.
• Invest in Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Programs.
The organization is asking the public to support the Fair Shot Legislative Agenda here and will be distributing the priorities to legislative offices this week. Union members and workers across the state are prepared to testify during the legislative session.
