Temperatures are likely to drop again on Saturday due to an Arctic front moving through the area, according to Eric Platt, National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio meteorologist. The morning hours on Saturday appear to be fairly mild, but the temperatures are likely to drop as the day goes on, converse to the normal weather pattern.
“By early afternoon, the cold front is going to move through San Marcos, so the temperature will probably be falling,” Platt said. “Look for maybe falling temperatures in the afternoon late Saturday, and then it stays cold through to Sunday and well into the early portion of next week.”
Platt said he is confident that cold air is coming, but as of right now, has “low confidence as to whether or not we'll get any kind of wintry precipitation.”
Platt cautioned to prepare for the colder temperatures and a likely hard freeze. Be sure to take care of pets, plants, pipes and people this weekend and into early next week.
“This looks like we're going to see one of those instances where we're going to see another hard freeze across the area for Saturday night. Well, maybe close [to freezing] Saturday night but for sure on Sunday night and again on Monday night,” Platt said. “Lower 20s is what we're forecasting right now, and there's probably room to go down, as far as that's concerned. So we may see several nights of overnight low temperatures in the lower 20s. So that's several nights of what we term as a hard freeze.”
