Gary Job Corps reflects on New Year

Over the past year, students and staff from the Gary Job Corps have participated and performed many community service projects.

The Security and Corrections Cadets worked the Circuit of the America’s, Austin City Limits Music Festival, Comal County Fair, Texas State University Football and Graduation Ceremonies, Q2 Soccer games, LBJ Birthday Bash, Hays County Car Shows, Jamaica Festival at St. John’s Catholic Church, Juneteenth Festival, Southside Community Center Thanksgiving and Christmas activities, Hats off for Veterans fundraiser, Martindale 4th of July Parade, San Marcos Academy’s OctoBEAR Fest, Hays County Tamale Fest, Kyle and San Marcos Business Expos, Sights & Sounds of San Marcos, Maxwell Fire Department Firecracker Golf Tournament, Cinco de Mayo and the Fajita Cookoff Festival. Carpentry students completed a patio buildout at the AMVET Building in Kyle. Cement students repaired the walkways at the Sunrise Village Housing area. Warehousing students have assisted the San Marcos Public Library with Annual Book Sales. Student Government Association students assisted with Earth Day Cleanup in Martindale, PRIDE Parade in San Marcos, San Marcos Youth Council’s Back to School Fest, and the Hays Cares shoe drive. Gary Job Corps also partnered with TESLA and the Pascagoula Shipyard in Mississippi with employment opportunities for graduates. Gary Job Corps Students and Staff are looking forward to the New Year and all of the upcoming opportunities to help the community.
