Lady Rattlers fall to No. 1 Judson

SMHS GIRLS BASKETBALL

In a showdown with the No. 1 ranked team in the state, the Lady Rattlers fell short of their upset bid, losing the Judson Rockets 63-27.

The Lady Rattlers overall record falls to 18-6 while their district record falls to 4-1.

San Marcos had a competitive first quarter against Judson and took the lead against the Rockets midway through the period.

Judson was able to regain control of the lead at the end of the quarter, leading 12-10 before both teams entered the second quarter.

Unfortunately for the Lady Rattlers, Judson outscored San Marcos 18-3 in the second quarter to take a commanding lead at halftime, leading 30-13 before winning the game at 63-27.

Junior shooting forward Azariah Fennell led the team in scoring with 14 points followed by senior point guard Ezra Tobias with 5.

San Marcos will be back home Friday to defend their perfect home record against the Cibolo Steele Knights with the winner taking sole possession of second in District 29.

Steele, the No. 11 ranked team in the state, sits with a 18-5 record. In their last district game last weekend, the Knights fell to Judson 43-40.

Tip-off for San Marcos- Cibolo Steele is set for 7 p.m. Friday at the Snake Pit.
