This weekend, I’m traveling back to my former hometown for a cousin’s 50th wedding anniversary. For the first time in decades, I will step foot into the ballroom where my lifelong best friend and I attended prom. We left that tiny town in our rearview mirrors so fast, there were treadmarks in the driveway. San Marcos has been my home ever since. Therefore, rather than reliving the high school drama of my senior prom, I will list all the things I could be doing here instead. For instance, watching The Polar Express at UFCU Stadium on Friday, starting at 6 p.m. Or attending the Pre-Kwanzaa celebration on Saturday at the San Marcos Public Library from 1 to 4 p.m. Then on Sunday, I could stop by Green Heron Bookshop to try my hand at the crossword competition. My old hometown doesn’t even have a bookstore. But it’s okay. I live here now, and I’ll see everyone when I get home.
